HOW TO PLAY RUST LEGACY:

Surviving your first night in rust can be difficult whether you’re a new comer or an experienced player. In this Blog I am going to give you the best tips to stay alive so you can make it through your first night in rust and get yourself established on a server, First things first, find a good server, you want to look for a server that offers things that intrigue you, my suggestion is avoid the hacker filled official and community servers and stick to the modded servers.

Alot of modded servers will have abreviated terms for thing you might want to try that arnt available on every server, and definetly arnt available on the non modded community and official servers.

Here is a list to help explain what each abbreviation means.
  • TP - This stands for teleport, and is used to teleport yourself to your friend in the game so you don't have to find them.
  • Kits - This means the server has kits that you can spawn in usually on a delayed time bases. it can involve guns, or other building materials, and on some server it can spawn in Admin items like the uber bow or uber hatchet, but mostly it will say "Uber" or some variation of Uber in the title in uber items are one of the kits.
  • PVP - This one is simple, it stands for Person Versus Person or Player Versus Player.
  • PVE - This one is again of the same format as above, Person Versus Enviroment or Player Versus Enviroment.
  • Dura - Refers to the durability of items in your inventory, some servers have it set that using a item will slowly break it, some have that turned off. Which makes it easier when its off, but more challenging when its on.
  • Warps - Usually refers to having set points in the map you can teleport too.
  • Home - Refers to the ability to set a personal warp to your home.
  • Decay - Refers to your building decay, on some servers decay will be set to half or off, meaning if you dont log into the server for a few days the building can decay or not if it has been turned off.
  •  Econ or Cash or Rewards - Refers to the server having a xp reward system that allows you to earn money for kills or other things which in turn you can spend on guns or other server items.
  • AntiHack - Usually this means the server has some sort of additional anti hacking software running on it that allows for others to be auto banned when caught hacking using easily detectable hacks such as speed running or jumping and many more other detected hacks.
  • Air or Drops - Refers to airdrops that come at random in the game that supplies building materials, C4, weapons etc.
  • MassLoot - Refers to a server that has increased what type of loot you get from in game storage crates, usually being more guns and bullets.
  • Active Admin - Refers to a admin that is active in the game dealing with hack reports from other players and helping noobs out
  • Noob Friendly - Refers to a server where the admin is running things in a way that makes for a more efficient setup for noobs. Griefing is usually not allowed on these types of servers
  • NoGrief - This refers to the admins stance on a behavior called griefing in the game, where more advanced players bully more helpless players, it usually means that the admins don't allow this sort of behaviour from people on the server and will ban them if necessary from the server.
  • Remove or Remover - This refers to the server having a remove function for when you place building parts in the wrong place or want to move you house somewhere else. This can be a very useful tool.
  •  Sleepers or NoSleeper - Refers to whether or not when you log off the server your body is left on the server for others to kill, when raiding your place or if they find you wherever you feel asleep so to speak by logging off.
  •  Craft (Insta or Half) -  This refers to the default crafting time for each object being adjusted, for instacraft servers there is no wait while crafting for half craft it takes have as long as the default crafting time for that item, and finally full craft takes the default amount of time.
  •  Wipe - This refers to when the server was last wiped, a popular server that remains un-wiped for a long time can cause extreme lag and render the server unplayable.
That basically covers most of what you will see, other things are pretty easy to figure out what it means, such as X2 Gather would mean you gather twice as much as normal etc.

Now once you find what your looking for whether it be a vanilla server (non modded just the way the game came) or a modded server (added elements to the game to make it better). From there you want to look for two important things, Active admins, and responsible admins. Admins often times can be the worst part of the server overall ruining the game, if they are too lazy and don’t maintain their server or are biased towards some people, hackers can often run rampant and control and dominate other players un fairly, if they are too strict and anti-friendly they can be a pain to more experienced players and sometimes ban players for simply no reason. Finding a good server is pretty hard, so expect to move from server to server untill you find one you like.

You can research comments on active servers and view the servers rating to make a educated decision here:

Next the first thing you want to do before joining a server is familiarize yourself with the map. This can be hard at first since the map is pretty big, even though rust only utilizes a shocking 10% of the full map, it still can be hard at first because that 10% is still pretty big. But don’t worry I have provided a way for you to learn the map. Go to this site https://rustmap.net/index.php or this one http://www.rustnuts.com/ to familiarize yourself that way. The best thing about the first is it has pictures that can help. The best way to learn the map is to learn the map, those photos should help but here is a few things that might also help.

  • The road goes in a giant circle around the entire spawnable areas of the map and the most frequented
  • There are 3 rad towns and one other main area, Small or Split Rad, Big Rad, Factory Rad, and Hangar which has radiation but isnt really a rad town.
  • Split Rad and Hangar are the most common places to find people.
  • People are mean and mostly bandits and raiders, be weary of players in this game the community can get pretty serious into this game and some take it a bit too seriously, just know there are alot of people just trying to have fun like you and rust is a great place to meet people.

Once you have a good idea how things are laid out it is time to pick a secluded part of the map to place your base. You’re going to want to find somewhere not easily or regularly traveled that keeps your base or hut, relatively hidden from raiders or bandits.
Once you’ve done that and have found where in the map you’re going to hide your base its time to start building your resources.

I have a few videos that can help in that first check out “Rust Walkthrough | How To Survive Your First Night On Any Server!” Here:

From there I have base building videos that will help you make very secure bases, and as a rule the more secluded your base is, the less chance you have to be raided. So make sure to build any base design as far as possible from regularly travelled routes.

For an easy base click here: How To Build An Easy Raid Proof Base On Rust

For a harder base click here: How To Build A Medium Raid Proof Base On Rust

For a difficult base click here: How To Build A Strong Raid Proof Base On Rust

Once you have established yourself it now time to become either a raider, a bandit, or a hero. Choose how you want to live out the rest of your days in Rust.
Enjoy, and as always GAME ON!
